Copom, taxa Selic e o que isso tem a ver com você

E todo mês é a mesma história: os juros estão altos demais, o Copom tinha que reduzir mais a taxa Selic, etc. Primeiro vamos entender duas coisas: o que é o Copom e o que é a taxa Selic.

Copom quer dizer Comitê de Política Monetária, uma instituição independente do governo mas ligada ao Banco Central. O objetivo do Copom é fazer cumprir as metas de inflação estabelecidas pelo Conselho Monetário Nacional (CMN). O maior instrumento do Copom para isso é o poder de fixar a meta para a taxa Selic.

A taxa Selic (Sistema Especial de Liquidação e Custódia) é uma taxa de juros que é a base das demais taxas de juros cobradas pelo mercado.

Mas o que isso tem a ver com você? Bom, a taxa de juros que o seu banco cobra no cheque especial, ou no rotativo do cartão de crédito é baseado na taxa Selic, assim como alguns títulos públicos que são a base de diversos fundos de investimento.
